According to the Bible, and another ancient historical document, the book of Jasher, the land area, of the earth, was originally in one piece. And, the division of the land, into the present continents, took place about 4300 years ago, about 100 years after the worldwide flood of Noah. You can find this information in Genesis 10:25 " To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, FOR IN HIS DAYS THE EARTH WAS DIVIDED." Many have mistakenly equated this division, to the tower of Babel incident. But, that isn't true. The division took place a little after the Tower of Babel incident.
The book of Jasher was a respected historical document, and is mentioned twice in the Bible as a resource to back up a statement in the Bible. It is not always in agreement with the Bible, but in its account of the division, I believe it can be trusted. You can find these references in Joshua 10:13, and 2nd Samuel 1:18. The book of Jasher has been translated into English, and can be easily found by doing a search on the internet.
Here's what the Book of Jasher says about the division: " These are the generations of Shem; Shem begat Arpachshad and Arpachshad begat Shelach, and Shelach begat Eber and to Eber were born two children, the name of one was Peleg, FOR IN HIS DAYS, THE SONS OF MEN WERE DIVIDED, AND IN THE LATTER DAYS, THE EARTH WAS DIVIDED. " ( Jasher 7:19 )
This division of the land area of the earth into continents, resulted in parts of the earth's crust colliding with other parts. Where these parts of the earth's crust collide with other parts, there is instability. There is still instability in these areas, today. Many earthquakes occur along these boundaries, and many volcanoes exist along these boundaries. The Bible tells us, that there will be an increase in earthquakes, just before the return of Jesus, for His elect. The topic, of the division of the land area of the earth, will become increasingly important, as the time of the return of Jesus gets closer and closer. Are you ready?
The major disagreement between the Bible, and modern scientists, on this topic, is about when, and how, this division occurred. You can learn more about the problems, with modern dating methods, by clicking on the " Atomic Clocks " link below.
